Never Give Up: Vision, Determination and the Strength of Friendships
On 29 March 2026, I had the great pleasure of presenting my latest book, L’amicizia, un segreto da condividere (Never Give Up: Vision, Determination and the Strength of Friendships), during a public event held at La Feltrinelli Point in Arezzo, Tuscany. The conversation was expertly moderated by Stefano Parati, and I was honoured to be joined by my co-author, Alessandro Vergni, who contributed thoughtfully to the discussion.
Throughout the event, I reflected on some of the defining moments of my personal and professional journey—from my beginnings in provincial Italy to my path as an international businessman, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and diplomatic representative, a journey that ultimately led to my being honoured with an OBE. I shared experiences from my career in business and diplomacy, highlighting both the challenges I have faced and the lessons I have learned along the way.
I spoke candidly about navigating the political and economic complexities of the Brexit era, as well as the opportunities that shaped my convictions, among them, my philanthropic work with the Esharelife Foundation, my candidacy for the Italian Senate, and my role as Honorary Consul of the Republic of San Marino. These experiences reinforced my belief that determination, combined with clarity of purpose, can transform even the most demanding circumstances into meaningful achievements.
The central message I sought to convey resonated deeply with those present: our potential is never defined by where we come from or by the circumstances we inherit. I firmly believe that every individual, regardless of background, possesses the ability to generate positive and lasting change in the world.
This capacity for transformation, I emphasised, is built upon the powerful synergy of three essential pillars: a clear and compelling personal vision, unwavering perseverance and determination in the face of adversity, and the enduring strength of true friendships.
It is this combination of forward-looking ambition, relentless effort, and a supportive network of trusted relationships that empowers each of us to make a truly meaningful difference.
